IV Wrestling Tournament Schedule (February 6 @ LP)
2008 - 2009 Wrestling
12/11/08 - The wrestling team opened its season at
the Layton Invitational Tournament. There were 25 teams from Utah and
Nevada, and our Knights represented themselves very well. Steven Tebbs
at the 160 pound division placed 6th while Tyler Curtis at 215 pounds
placed third in his weight class. All wrestlers fought good tough matches
and put forth great efforts. The coaches were very pleased with the
efforts of the team and feel they are on track to a winning season.
Coach Spencer was most impressed with the way the team continued to
fight in close matches. Tebbs (160 lbs.) had two overtime victories
at the tournament, which helped him realize that the hard work and
hours of practice pay off in those close matches. At the conclusion
of the 1st round on Friday Coach Spencer and his staff encouraged the
wrestlers by reviewing some minor details they had noticed in the matches
up to that point. Tyler Curtis took to heart some of the pointers given
by assistant coaches and put them to work in all of his remaining matches.
Coach Spencer saw a huge improvement in Tyler’s aggressiveness
the second day. This aggressiveness and intensity got him the wins
he deserved. It was fun to watch him improve and implement the techniques
showed.
Thursday the Team starts its Region competition against the Spanish
Fork Don’s. The Don’s are the Region Champions from last
year and were picked to be the favorite this year as well. Coach Spencer
and his staff feel like this upcoming week will give us a good look
at how to prepare for the rest of the season. |
