Criteria: The ACCESS program of the College of Science at the University of Utah is an outgrowth of a National Science Foundation initiative.  The program was established to encourage and support women just starting their college careers to pursue their passion for the sciences and/or engineering.  ACCESS students receive a one-year stipend of $3,000, but the benefits are not limited to the stipend alone.  Each student receives the opportunity to work in a University of Utah research lab during her freshman year.

American Legion - Oratorical Contest

Deadline: December 1st

Criteria: Eligible participants in The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest shall be citizens of or lawful permanent residents of the United States.

Students must be under the age of twenty (20) years on the date of the National Contest who are presently enrolled in a high school or junior high school.

Award: Scholarship awards are presented to the three finalists in the Final Round of the National contest as follows: 1st place - $18,000; 2nd place - $16,000; 3rd place - $14,000. Each first round winner who advances to and participates in the second round, but does not advance to the Final Round, will receive an additional $1,500 scholarship to pursue education beyond high school.

 

 

 

Applied Technology Education Scholarships

Deadline: March 8th

Criteria: Each nominee must be a secondary (high school) Applied Technology Education student either completing or continuing courses in one of the following applied technology areas:

Agriculture, Business, Health Science & Health Technology, Family & Consumer Sciences, Marketing, and Trade & Technical.

Nominees must have a valid Applied Technology career goal. The recipient must also have plans to enter the workforce directly upon completion of his/her formal Applied Technology Education training.  Be recommenced by an Applied Technology Education teacher and be in the top 20% of his/her Applied Technology Education program.

Award: The Applied Technology Education Scholarships are designed to give recognition to Utah=s most outstanding Applied Technology education students.  This scholarship provides tuition waivers to those students who have excelled in their Applied Technology disciplines.

 


 

Ayn Rand Institute Essay Contest:

Deadline: April 25th

(This essay contest is extended to 9th through 12th grade students. The essays are based on Ayn Rand novelettes.)

Criteria: To avoid disqualification, a stapled cover sheet must include your name and address; the name and address of your high school; topic selected; the year you will graduate from high school; and (optional) the name of the teacher most helpful in development of your writing skills.

Essay must be no fewer than 600 words and no more than 1,200 words in length, and must be typewritten and double-spaced. Essay must be solely the work of the entrant.

Award: $100 - $10,000 Cash Awards.

T.H. Bell Teaching Incentive Loan Program

Deadline: March 31st

Criteria: Utah resident high school seniors or any junior who will have completed the requirements for an Early Graduation Program, including the ACT, during the current fiscal year. College students who have declared education as their major and completed 37 quarter credits or more, may also apply through the university education department. TIL recipients may attend BYU, Westminster College or any Utah public college or university of their choice. Please do not submit an application for both the T.H. Bell teaching incentive Loan Program and the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship (you can only receive one or the other).

Award: The TIL consists of a waiver (of tuition and fees at the Utah public institutions and $995.00 per semester at private institutions) to be used for a period not exceeding 12 quarters or 8 semesters.

 

 

 

 

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

Deadline: March 31st

Criteria: To be eligible for this program, high school seniors must: (a) be graduates of a public or private secondary school or have the equivalent of a certificate of graduation recognized by the State in which they reside; and (b) have been accepted for enrollment at an institution of higher education (military schools are not accepted), as defined in the Student Assistance General Provisions, 34 CFR 66.3. A student must complete one year of university/college before an interruption (mission, etc.) can be approved.

Selection will be made by a panel of qualified educators solely on the basis of demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and geographic consideration.  Applications from those with less than a 20 ACT score or a 3.1 GPA will not be accepted. Please do not submit an application for both the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship and the T.H. Bell Teaching Incentive Loan Program (you can only receive one or the other.)

Award: The Byrd Scholarship award amount continues to be $1,110 for each selected scholar, except that the statue requires that the total amount of the financial aid awarded, including a Byrd Scholarship, cannot exceed the scholar=s total cost of attendance at his or her post-secondary institution.

 

 


Centennial Scholarship for Early Graduation

Criteria: Major points of the scholarship program are as follows:

1.                   Public school students who graduate at the end of their junior year receive $1,000

2.                   Students who graduate during their senior year receive a prorated amount.

3.                   Money is deposited at the institution in the student=s name and may be used for tuition only.

4.                   Any unused balance is returned to the State Office of Education.

5.                   The scholarship must be used for full time enrollment and must be claimed within one calendar year of high school graduation.

6.                   Students must have an SEOP on file that indicates their intention to graduate early and must inform the school of their intention to graduate early during their ninth grade year or as soon thereafter as the decision is made.

7.                   Institutions of higher education are eligible to participate if they are accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.

Award: A student who graduates from high school at the conclusion of the eleventh grade year or during the twelfth grade year shall be entitled to partial tuition scholarship in the form of the Early Graduation Centennial Scholarship Certificate to be used at a Utah public college, University, Community College, Applied Technology Center, or any other institution in Utah accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges that offers post-secondary courses.

 

 

Chevrolet REWARDS Scholarship

Criteria:          *Female student currently completing her senior year of high school with sufficient 

  credits to graduate in the spring of 2007

*Possess a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale

Coca-Cola Scholars Program

Deadline: October 31st

Criteria: This scholarship program is dedicated to selecting well-rounded students from every type of community across the nation.  Recipients are not solely valedictorians, but rather well-rounded individuals with highly developed interests in their community.  They spend time volunteering, initiating programs of all kinds, tutoring youngsters or peers and are leaders in their schools.  They are aware of their physical and social environments and are taking steps to improve them.  They are often employed during the school year and/or summer.  They balance all these extracurricular activities with strong academic performances.  They are the leaders of tomorrow.   Fifty (50) awards are for $20,000, payable in equal installments over a four-year period.  The remaining 200 awards are for $4,000, also payable over a four-year period.  The scholarships can be used for any line of study at any U.S. accredited college or university.

 


Don Corbett Engineering Scholarship for Women

Deadline: February 10th

Criteria: Don Corbett, an alumnus of Utah State University, made a generous donation to the College of Engineering. The interest from this donation provides several annual scholarships for women.  These scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman women majoring in Engineering.  The recipients may also accept any other scholarship in addition to the Corbett Scholarship.

 

 

Susan W. Coda Memorial Scholarship

PROFILE is a program of the College Scholarship Service (CSS), the financial aid division of the College Board - a national, nonprofit association of schools and school systems, colleges and universities, and educational organizations.  Many colleges, universities, graduate and professional schools, and scholarship programs use the information collected on PROFILE to help them award non-federal student aid funds. CSS does not award scholarship money or any other financial aid.

 

 

Comcast Foundation Scholarship

Criteria: Be a full-time attending senior in a high school within a Comcast Community. Have a GPA of 2.8 or higher. Demonstrate leadership abilities in school activities or through work experiences.  Strong commitment to community service involvement.  Only one student per school can be nominated for this scholarship.  All applications need to be returned to the Career Center.

FFA Scholarship

Deadline: February 15th

Criteria: The Nation FFA Scholarship program is available to:

 * FFA members in their senior year of high school

 * FFA members who are high school graduates preparing to enroll in their first year of education beyond high school.

 * FFA members and /or former FFA members who are currently enrolled in college. 

Each FFA member is eligible to receive only one scholarship during the time they are high school senior or as an out of school FFA member preparing to enroll in their first year of post-secondary education.  A second scholarship may be awarded to an FFA member who received a scholarship as a high school senior and who applies again as a currently enrolled college student.  Currently enrolled college students are eligible to receive only one National FFA scholarship during the course of their entire post-secondary enrollment.

Awards: There are currently 323 FFA Scholarships offered each has its individual awards.

Criteria: Any graduating Utah high School Student of Italian Ancestry (at least one of the student=s parents must be of Italian Ancestry)

Criteria: Must be nominated by Counselor or teacher.  Must have a GPA of 3.3 or above, have good citizenship and show positive leadership qualities.  There will be one scholarship awarded per Utah High School.  Must attend The American Institute of Medical-Dental Technology.

MICRON SCHOLARSHIP

Deadline: January 20th

Criteria:          *Be high school senior who resides in and attends public or private school in one of the selected states.

*Have a combined SAT of at least 1350 or a composite ACT score of at least 30

*Have an unweighted grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale

*Plan to major in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Chemical, Mechanical), Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry or Material Sciences at an accredited four-year college or university.

Municipal Clerks Scholarship Program

Criteria: The Utah Municipal Clerks Association (UMCA) offers a $500 scholarship each year to a high school senior who is interested in going into a field related the position of a municipal clerk/recorder.

 

 

 

National Honors Society Scholarships

Deadline: January 30th

Criteria: Each National Honor Society chapter may nominate two seniors for this national scholarship.  Nominees must be able to demonstrate on their applications that they possess outstanding character, scholarship, service, and leadership.  Any high school senior who is a member of National Honor Society may be nominated.

Award: $250 - $,1000 scholarships will be awarded; all school winners receive a certificate of merit.  This program is funded by the National Honors Society/NASSP.  As part of this program, Collegiate Cap and Gown donates funds for two scholarships; Datamatch, Inc. donates funds for one scholarship.

 


National Federation of the Blind Scholarship

Deadline: April 15th

Criteria: Each year at its National Convention in July, the NFB gives a broad array of scholarships to recognize achievement by blind scholars.  All applicants for these scholarships must be (1) legally blind and (2) pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time post-secondary course of study in the fall semester of 2007, in the United States, except that one scholarship may be given to a full-time employee attending school part-time.

 

 

Principal=s Leadership Award

Prudential Spirit of Community Award

Deadline: October 23rd

Criteria: This unique awards program, conducted by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and Prudential, provides much-deserved recognition - and the chance for sizable cash prizes - to middle level and high school students across the U.S. who have performed outstanding volunteer work in their communities.

Once schools select their School Honorees, they will advance to state-level judging, where the top youth in each state will be named.  These students will win $1,000 awards, engraved silver medallions and a trip to Washington D.C. for a series of national recognition events.  Bronze medallions and special certificates will be given to hundreds of runners-up at the state level.

Finally, ten National Honorees will be will be named America=s top ten youth volunteers by a prestigious panel of national judges.  They will receive an additional $5,000, a gold medallion and a beautiful crystal trophy for their schools.

 

Jessie E. Quinney Scholarship (USU)

Deadline: February 1st

Criteria:

1          Incoming high school or transfer student seeking either a first or second bachelor=s degree or a Masters of Forestry degree.

2          Academic achievements: high academic performance and ACT/SAT scores.  Special consideration will be given to honors, Advanced Placement, science, and math classes.

3          Activities/leadership: involvement in school clubs or other extracurricular activities, leadership experience.

4          Ability to communicate effectively (to be determined by letter of introduction, essay, and personal interview).

8.                   Personal motivation in some aspect of natural resources (to be determined from essay, activities, personal interview, and references).

Award: $1,200/year, four-year scholarships

 

 


Ream=s Food Stores Scholarships

Deadline: March 15th

Criteria:  Judging will be based on academic scholarship, personal character, financial need, leadership qualities and interest, involvement in athletic activities, including: football, basketball, cross country,

volleyball, tennis, track and field, soccer, rodeo, baseball, swimming, wrestling, officiating, community recreation, etc.

Award: Eight $2,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to boys and/ or girls of this year=s graduating class.  This must be used at a post-high school institution in Utah and is good for the next calendar school year only.

 

 

 

School Counseling Scholarship

Deadline: January 7th

Criteria:         

*Must be high school seniors who plan to become a school counselor or public education teacher.

*Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher and provide recommendations by those who are familiar with the student=s career goals.

*Scholarship money will be sent directly to the college or university of the winner=s choice.

*Three $500 scholarships will be awarded during School Counselor Week in February.

 

 

 

 

Toyota Community Scholars Program

Deadline: November 14th

Criteria:          *Must be a high school senior with a GPA of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 10% of the graduating class

*Be actively involved in a service organization or project that has a positive impact on    the school and/or community

*Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or U.S. permanent resident.

*Plan to pursue an undergraduate degree at an accredited four-year college or university    in the United States.

Award: 100 renewable scholarships valued at $10,000 and $20,000 over four years.

 

 

 

U of U Chicano Scholarship

Criteria: The goal of the Chicano Scholarship Fund is to recognize aspiring students who promote the cultural pride and tradition of the Chicano/Latino community.  Chicano Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of family background, involvement in Chicano/Latino community activities which promote and strengthen the Chicano/Latino community and life challenges which exemplify the Chicano struggle for opportunity.  Financial need may influence the final selection.

 

 


U of U Mines and Earth Sciences Departmental Scholarship

University of Utah - Top 10% Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Criteria: Students who graduate in the top 10% of their graduating class are guaranteed admission and will receive $1,000 during their first year at the University of Utah ($500 for each of their first two semesters).  Upon maintaining a 3.2 GPA or higher in the first year, these students will be awarded an additional $750 ($375 per semester) tuition waiver for the second year of attendance.

Criteria: Awards are to be made annually to native born United States citizens.  The recipients are to be undergraduate students who are pursuing a career in medical research.  All candidates must be academically qualified and offer promise in their chosen field.  Criteria for selection of recipients for the award include: (1) The student=s potential for successfully pursuing a career in medical research. (2) A written application submitted to the committee.

 

 

Violet Richardson Award

Criteria: This award recognized young women between the ages of 14 - 17 who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts.  Not based on academic achievement.  This award is for young women only.

 

 

Republican Women Scholarship

Criteria: The Republican Women of Utah County scholarship is extended to seniors who achieved academic excellence, has financial need, will be attending college in 2006, demonstrates an interest in politics in her community, holds to Republican Party views.

SAE Engineering Scholarship Program

Deadline: December 1st

Criteria: All applicants must:

 

                        Intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science.

        .Be a citizen of the United States at the time of application.

                        Be a high school junior or senior (Juniors may apply for the GMI Scholarship only.)

                        Have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale) for 10th and 11th grade.

Meet minimum requirements with regard to SAT and/or ACT scores as outlined in the individual requirements of each scholarship (Experience shows that successful candidates will rank in the 90th percentile in both math and verbal.)

Award: There are a number of SAE scholarships.  These scholarships vary in awards between $1,000 to $4,000

 

 

Scholars Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Awards (the SAMMY=s)

Criteria: 25 students from around the country will be recognized for excellence in athletics, academics, leadership and community service.  There=s no limit to the number of students that can be nominated from each school.

Science Talent Search (Utah)

Deadline: March 1st

Criteria: Entrants are limited to the young men and women who are juniors and seniors in high school the year they enter the Search.  Each student must submit a Project Report, a completed Entry Form, an Official high school transcript, and available standardized test scores.

Award: The first and second place winners have been invited, with all expenses paid, to attend the National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) in West Virginia. ** Several scholarships awards have also been made available in the past from state universities and private enterprises.

 

 

Conway P. & Elaine W. Sonne Scholarship (USU)

Criteria: This scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors showing talent and potential for continuing leadership.

 

 

UAEOP Scholarship

Deadline: January 31st

Criteria: This scholarship is designed to assist business education students who wish to continue their education and pursue office-related careers, preferably in the educational field.  This scholarship is valued at $500.

C           Applicant must intend to continue his/her education in an office-related business program and be a graduating high school student who has made application to continue his/her education, OR the applicant may currently be pursuing such a course of study in an institution of higher education.

C           Applicant must have completed two (2) or more business education courses (four [4] semesters) from among the following: computer classes, keyboarding, typing, shorthand, accounting, bookkeeping, and/or office practices and procedures.

C           Applicant shall be enrolled/expect to enroll as a full-time student in an institution of higher education (two- or four-year college, university, business college/school or vocational/technical school).

C           Applicant shall be responsible for the completion and return of all required support materials to the sponsoring affiliate association.

UGA Scholarship

Deadline: April 15th

Criteria: The scholarship is good at any Utah post-secondary institution.  There are no age, marital, or genders restrictions.  The scholarship funds will be paid directly to his/her institution of choice/ the scholarship must be used in its entirety within one year.    

Applications are weighted equally in each of the following areas:

(1) Education experience, achievements, grade point.

(2) Education goals and objectives.

(3) Leadership, extra-curricular, work volunteerism, character.

(4) Financial need.

(5) Golf affiliation and interest (not based on skill).

Award: $1,000

 

 


United States JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship Program

Deadline: January 7th

Criteria: Each year $1,000 grants will be awarded to graduation high school seniors in the United States, who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools.  The number of grants awarded annually will be at the discretion of the United States JCI Senated Foundation.  They must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study.

 

 

 

USA Today Scholarship

Deadline: February 28th

Criteria: The key element, to be given most weight by the judges, will be student=s outstanding original academic or community service endeavor.  The judges will be influenced by the student=s ability to describe the outstanding endeavor in his/her own words.  They will not read an author=s work, see an artist=s painting or hear a composer=s music.  They will rely solely on the student=s ability to describe the effort in writing, supplemented by there commendations from the nominating teacher and up to three persons of nominee=s choice.

Award: $2,500 cash award

 

 

 

 

US Bank

Deadline: February 28th

Criteria: U.S. Bank will award up to thirty $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend accredited two- or four-year college full-time next fall.  Scholarship award recipients are selected through a random drawing process.  Students can apply online.

 

 

 

 

Utah Community Credit Union Scholarship

Deadline: April 1st

Criteria: Each student will be given a score based on work ethic, academic achievement, community service, club/group involvement, financial need and credit union membership.

Award: $500

 

 

 

 

Utah State University AEngineering - Your Future@ Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Criteria: Many scholarships from USU are available based on your high school performance, but the Engineering Exam provides the only College of Engineering scholarships available to entering freshmen.  To receive any scholarship, you must complete USU applications for admission and scholarships (forms are available from your school counselor).

Award: $5,000 four-year scholarship

 


Voice of Democracy Contest

Deadline: November1st

Criteria:

C           Adults over the age of 19, former first place state winners and foreign exchange students are not eligible to compete.

C           The recorded essay must not be less than three minutes, nor longer than five minutes.

C           The recorded essay must be recorded in the participant=s own voice. The essay read by the student should be the only sound on the cassette tape. Delivery should be in a natural style.  Voice should be normal and conversational.  The recorded/written essay must be spoken in English, not sung.  No background sounds (to include music) will be allowed.

C           Participants cannot identify themselves, their school, city or state within their essay or their recorded audio cassette tape.

C           Essay must be contestant=s original work and a product of the contestant=s own thinking.  The approach to the theme should be positive and focus on the theme.  Quotations may be used sparingly and should be plainly identified wherever used.

C           All entries will be submitted on good-quality audio cassette tape.  All contestants are judged based solely on their audio tape presentation; the judging procedure and criteria does not include or allow provision to determine the quality of a contestant=s written essay based on spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, neatness, grammar, etc...

Award: First Place Winner receives a $20,000 scholarship

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)

Criteria: WUE is a tuition reduction program for students attending college outside their home state.  WUE enables undergraduate students from participating states to enroll in selected out-of-state programs at 150 percent of regular resident tuition.

If any student is planning to attend college in Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, or Wyoming next year, should fill out a WUE application.

 

 

 

Will to Win Scholarship

Deadline: April 30th

Criteria: If you=re an ambitious athlete, disciplined, determined and believe in healthy competition, you may be an ideal candidate for the AWill to Win@ Scholarship.  This award is available to students in order to encourage young people with asthma to have successful lives and a balance of . . . following the recommendations of a physician . . . and embracing a positive  attitude.

Other criteria includes: Leadership qualities and notable extracurricular activities and accomplishments.

In addition, nominees must also be accepted to a regionally accredited U.S. college, enter college in the fall of 2006 semester, pursue courses leading to a bachelor=s degree and maintain good college academic standing.

Award: Scholarships consist of five $1,000 winners, four $5,000 winners and one $10,000 winner.

 


Women=s Italian American Civic League

Deadline: April 15th

Criteria: To qualify, the applicant must be a 2007

 graduate of a Utah high school and of recent Italian descent.

The scholarship award committee will be responsible for selecting the recipient, basing the selection on American College Testing (ACT) scores, high school academic performance, and involvement in extra-curricular activities.  The applicants will also be expected to submit a 300 word essay describing your Italian ancestry and how your Italian heritage has influenced your life.

The award is intended for academic scholarship and not based on financial need.  However, students receiving other scholarships equivalent to their full tuition for the academic year are not eligible to receive the Women=s Italian American League Scholarship.  Applicants are encouraged to also apply for the Men=s Chapters scholarship.

Award: $1,000 which will be applied to tuition at any accredited institution of higher education

 

YouthLinc – Young Humanitarian Award

Criteria:  This scholarship is based on Humanitarian Efforts

Award: $5,000

 

Zions Bank Founders Scholarship

Deadline: February 1st

Criteria: Must be a high school senior.  Must have 3.0 or higher GPA.  Letter of recommendation by teacher or administrator of their high school.  Must submit one-page letter as to why they should be considered for the scholarship.  Complete scholarship application.
