Criteria: To be eligible for this program, high school seniors
must: (a) be graduates of a public or private secondary school or have the
equivalent of a certificate of graduation recognized by the State in which they
reside; and (b) have been accepted for enrollment at an institution of higher
education (military schools are not accepted), as defined in the Student
Assistance General Provisions, 34 CFR 66.3. A student must complete one year of
university/college before an interruption (mission, etc.) can be approved.
Selection will be made by a
panel of qualified educators solely on the basis of demonstrated outstanding
academic achievement and geographic consideration. Applications from those with less than a 20
ACT score or a 3.1 GPA will not be accepted. Please do not submit an
application for both the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship and the T.H. Bell Teaching
Incentive Loan Program (you can only receive one or the other.)
Award: The Byrd Scholarship award amount continues to be
$1,110 for each selected scholar, except that the statue requires that the
total amount of the financial aid awarded, including a Byrd Scholarship, cannot
exceed the scholar=s total cost of attendance at his or her
post-secondary institution.
Centennial Scholarship for
Early Graduation
Criteria: Major points of the scholarship program are as
follows:
1.
Public school students who graduate at the
end of their junior year receive $1,000
2. Students who graduate during their senior year receive a prorated amount.
3. Money is deposited at the institution in the student=s name and may be used for tuition only.
4. Any unused balance is returned to the State Office of Education.
5. The scholarship must be used for full time enrollment and must be claimed within one calendar year of high school graduation.
6. Students must have an SEOP on file that indicates their intention to graduate early and must inform the school of their intention to graduate early during their ninth grade year or as soon thereafter as the decision is made.
7. Institutions of higher education are eligible to participate if they are accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.
Award: A student who graduates from high school at the conclusion of the eleventh grade year or during the twelfth grade year shall be entitled to partial tuition scholarship in the form of the Early Graduation Centennial Scholarship Certificate to be used at a Utah public college, University, Community College, Applied Technology Center, or any other institution in Utah accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges that offers post-secondary courses.

However, students receiving other scholarships equivalent to their full tuition for the academic year are not eligible to receive the Women=s Italian American League Scholarship. Applicants are encouraged to also apply for the Men=s Chapters scholarship.
